NFL faces new lawsuit by more than 100 ex-players
« on: May 03, 2012, 09:48:39 pm »
ATLANTA (AP) More than 100 former NFL players have filed a federal lawsuit in Atlanta claiming that pro football didn't properly protect its players from concussions.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include former Atlanta Falcon Jamal Anderson, ex-Georgia star Lindsey Scott and veteran quarterback Don Majkowski.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in Georgia, claims the league failed to protect NFL players from brain injuries linked to football-related concussions.

They are among more than 1,000 former NFL players suing the league. The cases say not enough was done to inform players about the dangers of concussions in the past, and not enough is done to take care of them today.

The league has said any allegation that the league intentionally sought to mislead players is without merit.

The guys who play football know it's a rough sport, I'm not taking management's side, but come on!  This is about the same old thing, money!  Oh, aren’t the ex-players getting a retirement check & medical benefits from the league already?

I'll tell you what, how about the card company’s make a set of cards maybe called the "Concussion Club" and all of the proceeds go the ex-players.

Win, Win.  Just win baby!

I also have mixed feelings about this.

Before this is over, you'll have the League mandating (and I'm sure NFLPA opposing) a waiver form so any player who signs a contract acknowledges the risk and indemnifies the League for harm suffered during a game or practice.  If these guys honestly thought they had a case, they should be suing each other for the damage one player inflicts on another.   Players know football is a violent sport.

They can't pretend now that they didn't know before.
