Definitely will be fined. He did EVERYTHING illegal. Peel back block, illegal. Launched himself, Illegal. Led with the crown of the helmet, Illegal. Blow to the head, illegal.

He should be fined four times.

Check out this image from the FWST:

Tate did not leave his feet; he appears to lead with his shoulder not his head; although debatable, it does not appear to me to be a helmet-to-helmet hit -- he appears to get under Lee's facemask.

If Tate is fined I won't be surprised.  But if he isn't fined, keep this picture in mind.  I think a case can be made that the hit was not illegal.

Absolutely NO fine.  It was a legal hit.

The picture is a half second to late.  If Tate had hit him below the face mask his head would have gone forward.  Lee's head is turned to the side from the impact to the helmet.  Tate's helmet has already moved down, as Lee's body is thrust up into the air.

I knew watching all of those CSI & NCIS shows would pay off.

I'm guessing it draws a fine. Even if we all think the hit is legal how many times have we seen legal looking hits draw fines. In this day and age you can't hit anybody without getting fined.

And thus, the fine.....

NFL fines Golden Tate $21,000 for block on Sean Lee

When Seahawks receiver Golden Tate jacked up Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee with a brutal block on Sunday, he wasn’t flagged. But the league office has decided that was an oversight by the replacement officials.

The NFL fined Tate $21,000 for the block, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com. The league office says the block was illegal because Tate launched himself into Lee, striking him in the chest and chin with the crown of his helmet. Tate said after the game that he didn’t think — but didn’t know for sure — that the block was illegal.

I guess I'm too 'old school' for the modern NFL.  I'm really worried what the NFL will be like in another 5-10 years.

Well, if they don't take some action to curtail some of these helmet to helmet hits then in 5-10 years all the players will look and sound like Muhammad Ali. The rate of dementia and concussion related problems among former NFL players are some of the highest of any occupation.
