Release Calendar

Donruss Classics (July 2, 2008)
Very similar to the Donruss Elite brand as far as number of cards in the set. I expect to get 3 Cowboy veterans and possibly 3 serial numbered rookies along with TONS of inserts and parallels.

UD Football Heroes (July 8, 2008)
This is a new brand from Upper Deck but not a new concept. Upper Deck has been producing the Heroes insert set since the early 90s for baseball. They produced Football Heroes insert sets for their 2005 and 2006 base brand. Both Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach were included in those insert sets. I took a quick look at the checklist and saw Tony Romo, Marion Barber and Demarcus Ware from the veterans checklist. I saw Felix Jones and Tashard Choice from the Rookies. This should be a great looking brand!

Press Pass Legends (July 15, 2008)
Press Pass introduced their Legends brand a few years ago and I have been impressed with the selection of players each year. I expect to see a nice selection of Rookies and retired super stars.

Topps (July 24, 2008)
The granddaddy of all brands. Topps still rules the roost for team collectors. I always have a HUGE demand for these team sets. I expect close to 15 Cowboy cards in this team set including 4 rookies!

Upper Deck (July 30, 2008)
Upper Deck always produces quality cards. I expect close to 10 cards in the base set including a few rookies although there may be a Short Printed rookie or 2.

3. Dallas Cowboys News

Lots of news has hit the news wire concerning Pacman (oh wait, he doesn't want to be referred to Pacman any more, my bad) who was partially reinstated. This basically means the commissioner is simply waiting for Pacman to screw up again so he doesn't have to go through the wrangling of suspending him all over he will just maintain his current suspension. I am confident Pacman or Adam will keep his nose clean at least until he earns his first paycheck!

A sad news story his the wires a week or so back. Apparently there was a fatality at the location of the new Cowboys stadium. An electrician lost his life while working on the new stadium. Its not SUPER uncommon for construction workers to get injured on the job but fatalities are fairly rare. I am sure the Cowboys will come up with some way to honor this man and his family, perhaps season tickets?! Just an idea.

Things will start to heat up when training camp starts in Mid July.

4. Web Site Additions (stats)

I am constantly adding cards, sets and players to my ever growing database. Here are the current stats from my database:

492 - players listed (I added 3 undrafted 2008 Rookies; Keon Lattimore, Darrell Robertson and Mark Bradford all of which have CARDS in my database!)

5. Investing in Cowboy Cards

I have recently began accumulating graded examples of Dallas Cowboy cards. I really love the look and feel of these cards when they are entombed in these graded capsules. I have been accumulating PSA 7s - PSA 9s. I find that this range provides excellent quality cards but at bargain prices especially when you consider the PSA 10 prices. If you want to see some of my graded Cowboy cards, look here; Dallas Cowboys graded football cards.

I reported on this section in the January newsletter. I have continued to collect data and you can start to see a pattern of prices especially for cards that appear more often like the 1989 Aikman and Irvin Rookies as well as the 1990 Emmitt Smith Rookies. Book mark this page and check back often, I think it will become a great resource of Dallas Cowboys HOF Rookie card data. Dallas Cowboy Hall of Fame Rookie cards

6. Cowboy related web sites

Here are some Cowboy related web sites that I have recently visited that I found extremely entertaining.

I recently purchased a Tony Romo Fan site. This is the first time I purchased an existing site, the others I built from Scratch. I have YET to do anything to this site yet so if you have ANY IDEAS, please pass them on to me!!!!
Tony Romo Fan Site

Look what Dallas Cowboy fan and artist Zach Bolinger is doing with the Cowboy cards I sold him a while back; Dallas Cowboys Mosaic Posters. I am amazed at what Zach can do with simple football cards and I think you will too. As soon as I get my wife's permission, I will be purchasing one of these for my office!

Know Your Dallas Cowboys - I don't think anyone knows them as much as this blogger. The depth information on here is simply mind blowing.

The Landry Hat - A very opinionated blogger. At least his opinions are pro Cowboys. A very good place to get a ton of Cowboy information.

Not trying to promote my own site but the cowboycards.com forum has really picked up lately as a couple of very knowledgeable fans have recently began to post. If you haven't joined the forum yet, I have added an Admin acceptance feature that will not allow you to post until I accept your signup. this helps cut down on the amount of SPAM the forum gets. Drop in and check it out! Cowboycard.com forum.
