1. Newest Cowboy cards.

Let the 2008 season begin, at least from a collecting stand point. The Cowboys picked up 4 players in last weekends draft that already have football cards from major brands. In fact, I have added over 100 cards from 3 2008 brands to my database from these 4 players alone. I probably don't have to tell you who these players are but I will anyway.

1. Felix Jones RB Arkansas appears in 2008 Press Pass, Sage Hit and UD Draft Edition.
2. Mike Jenkins CB from South Florida appears in 2008 Press Pass, Sage Hit and UD Draft Edition.
3. Martellus Bennett TE from Texas A&M appears in 2008 UD Draft Edition.
4. Tashard Choice RB from Georgia Tech
appears in 2008 Press Pass, Sage Hit and UD Draft Edition.

Playoff reduced the number of veteran cards in the 2008 set compared to recent years in an effort to add more value by including more Rookies.

This is a new brand from Topps and has 220 base cards. 165 veterans and 55 Rookies averaging 5 veterans and 2 Rookies per team. There will be tons of inserts with Autographs and Game Used cards as well as many parallel levels.

Sage Aspire (May 21, 2008)
Features on 30 of the elite players from the 2008 NFL Draft. This product is extremely limited and contains several inserts including autographs and Game Used cards. Felix Jones is likely to be the ONLY Cowboy from this product.

Sage Autographed (May 28, 2008)
Features Autographs or Game Used cards in every pack. Very limited release with only a few players from the 2008 NFL draft. The Cowboys might get more than just one player (Felix Jones) in this product. We will just have to wait and see.

As you can see, the products are now coming fast and furious. You can expect 4 or 5 product releases each month until the end of the year. Aint it great!

3. Dallas Cowboys News

Cowboys active in the 2008 NFL Draft..
As expected, the Cowboys threw a few curve balls in the 2008 NFL draft. They almost had as many trades as they did picks which gets frustrating for fans that have been waiting hours to see them pick, only to see them trade the pick away. It's hard to gauge the value of all those trades. Unless your trading in and out of the first 3 rounds, it seems like a big waste of time to me. All in all, I was happy with the first two picks. Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins should provide immediate depth and get considerable playing time. The Martellus Bennett pick was confusing to me although it shouldn't have been considering the Cowboys traded away their back up tight end, Anthony Fasano, the day before the draft. The Cowboys traded Fasano and Akin Ayodele for a 4th round pick. Didn't the Cowboys take Fasano in the 2nd round only a few years ago? That's not good value in my eyes because I considered Fasano a great backup with more value than a 4th round pick. Without a solid backup at TE, the Cowboys then used a 2nd round pick to grab a TE. I am sure the logic will sink in eventually but for now it escapes me.

Just before the 2008 NFL draft, the Cowboys and Titans announced that they had reached agreement on a trade that would send Pacman Jones to the Cowboys for a conditional 4th round pick. Assuming Pacman gets reinstated by the Commissioner, he should add immediate relief to a depleted secondary and return game. Personally, I think the cost of winning is too high if you have to pickup a player like Pacman. I am all for giving players the benefit of the doubt as well as 2nd and 3rd chances. But I draw the line on attempted murder. The news out of Las Vegas this past week was not good for Pacman. The alleged shooter in the Las Vegas strip club last year has been arrested and reports have come out that Pacman has been paying this guy off for services rendered. This stinks to high heaven if you ask me. I don't how this all will affect the Commissioner's ruling but I for one would never allow Pacman back in the NFL much less on my beloved Cowboys team. It's my hope that the Commissioner extends the suspension until after the Las Vegas charges have been tried and Pacman is either in jail or cleared of all charges. Hopefully by then the Cowboys will come to their senses and never let this guy wear the silver star.

5. Investing in Cowboy Cards

I have recently began accumulating graded examples of Dallas Cowboy cards. I really love the look and feel of these cards when they are entombed in these graded capsules. I have been accumulating PSA 7s - PSA 9s. I find that this range provides excellent quality cards but at bargain prices especially when you consider the PSA 10 prices. If you want to see some of my graded Cowboy cards, look here; Dallas Cowboys graded football cards.

I reported on this section in the January newsletter. I have continued to collect data and you can start to see a pattern of prices especially for cards that appear more often like the 1989 Aikman and Irvin Rookies as well as the 1990 Emmitt Smith Rookies. Book mark this page and check back often, I think it will become a great resource of Dallas Cowboys HOF Rookie card data. Dallas Cowboy Hall of Fame Rookie cards

6. Cowboy related web sites

Here are some Cowboy related web sites that I have recently visited that I found extremely entertaining.

Look what Dallas Cowboy fan and artist Zach Bolinger is doing with the Cowboy cards I sold him a while back; Dallas Cowboys Mosaic Posters. I am amazed at what Zach can do with simple football cards and I think you will too. As soon as I get my wife's permission, I will be purchasing one of these for my office!

Know Your Dallas Cowboys - I don't think anyone knows them as much as this blogger. The depth information on here is simply mind blowing.

The Landry Hat - A very opinionated blogger. At least his opinions are pro Cowboys. A very good place to get a ton of Cowboy information.

Not trying to promote my own site but the cowboycards.com forum has really picked up lately as a couple of very knowledgeable fans have recently began to post. If you haven't joined the forum yet, I have added an Admin acceptance feature that will not allow you to post until I accept your signup. this helps cut down on the amount of SPAM the forum gets.
