1. Product release calendar.

The following lists the football card products scheduled to be released in the next 2 months. The release dates have a tendency to change and I will not get cards in stock until days if not weeks after the initial release. I expect to have plenty of these cards in stock soon after their release date.

2. Hobby News

T206 Honus Wagner PSA-8 card has sold again. (story)
In only a few short months, the hobbyist most storied cardboard piece as changed hands again. This time the record price is 2.8 million. I could just curse my great grandfather for not collecting baseball cards.

Court rules for Collectors Universe, sorta. (story)
A former employee who sued Collectors Universe, parent company of PSA and PSA/DNA, lost his $10 million claim against the company over some unauthorized letters of autograph authenticity. He did get $1 for each item with his signature on it, over $14,000. I am not in favor of what CU did but $10 million ($750 per signature) is a bit over the top. $1 per signature seems appropriate.

Floods in the midwest claim valuable sports card collection. (story)
The boxes that stored his cards included everything from vintage Hall of Famers to 1986 Topps. Late summer flooding in his hometown of Rushford, Minnesota swallowed up a collection he says was worth well into six figures This particular story hits really close to home. I recently had a water pipe break during a vacation and my basement was flooded by almost a foot of water. Luckily for me my Cowboy cards were stored up high but I did loose some other cards that took up the lower portion of my shelves. Let that be lesson, we should all examine the way we store our cards and where they are stored.

3. Dallas Cowboys News

The only news this week is opening day. The Cowboys open up at home versus the New York Giants on NBC Sunday Night football.
There are a few side stories besides the typical opening day hype.

The Giants Michael Strahan has decided to play this year vs retiring. Was anyone surprised by this. He will not start but I suspect he will get a lot of playing time and if history has shown us anything, he will likely be a factor.

Brandon Jacobs caused a stir with his comments about beating the Cowboys. I always find these stories humorous and made out to be more than they really are. Brandon was apparently tired of all the questions concerning him filling Tiki Barber's shoes vs the game and he simply noted that he would rather talk about how the Giants were going to beat the Cowboys. If the Cowboys need such comments to fire them up then they are in a lot of trouble.

Wade Phillips begins his tenure as the Cowboys 7th head coach in their history. No one is convinced that Phillips is the heir apparent to Jimmy Johnson or Tom Landry but all Cowboy fans are hoping he is at least the next Barry Switzer. Wade should be able to come in and not screw things up. This team is either on the brink of a championship or mediocrity. The problem for most fans is we believe a championship is just around the corner and can't see the obvious problems on the Cowboys team.

Terry Glenn will miss the season opener and possibly half or the entire season. At his age, a season ending injury could mean a career ending injury. Patrick Crayton will try to fill the shoes of the steady possession receiver and although Patrick has shown flashes of greatness at the slot and 3rd receiver, we have yet to see him play an entire game as a possession receiver. With Patrick as the number 2 receiver, who is number 3?

Not as glaring as the absence of Terry Glenn will be the abs cense of Greg Ellis. Ellis is still nursing an achilles injury that ended his season last year and is contemplating retirement. The Cowboys are much deeper at the linebacker position and Ellis was not the likely starter but he will be missed as the Cowboys active career sack leader.

Nick Folk will become the 7th Rookie kicker to start the season for the Cowboys since 1990. Can you name the other 6? email me the correct answer and I will send you a FREE 2007 Rookie card!
