Derrick Shepard Dallas Cowboy football cards
Derrick Shepard, WR from the University of Oklahoma, was an undrafted Free Agent out of college in 1987. He signed with the Washington Redskins and appeared in 7 games with the Redskins over the next 2 seasons, failing to catch a single pass. He was traded to the New Orleans Saints in 1989 and appeared in 4 games before being waived. He signed on with the Dallas Cowboys and played the next 11 games in Dallas catching a career high 18 passes for 268 yards and 1 touchdown. Derrick played in 14 more games with the Cowboys over the next 2 seasons as a special teams player. Derrick played in the NFL for 5 seasons, catching 20 passes for 304 yards and 1 touchdown. After his playing days, Shepard went in to coaching. First at the High School level then at Division 1 College with Wyoming. Derrick Shepard died suddenly of a heart attack while playing racket ball in August of 1999.
