Ed Jones Dallas Cowboy football cards
Ed 'Too Tall' Jones, DE from Tennessee State, was chosen by the Dallas Cowboys as the 1st overall pick in the 1974 NFL Draft. Jones played for 4 years before retiring in 1979 and giving pro boxing a try. Although he was 6-0 as a boxer, Jones decided to come back to football and play for the Cowboys. Jones returned better than ever and earned 3 Pro Bowl honors and led the Cowboys to 10 playoff appearances. Ed Jones played until 1989. In 15 seasons with the Cowboys, Jones never missed a game, playing in 232 consecutive games. Upon retirement Too Tall Jones had played more seasons (15) and more games (224) than any other Cowboy player. Too Tall was one of the most dominant defensive players of his era. At his height, 6 ft 9 in, he was a major obstacle for opposing QBs to get around. The NFL adapted a new statistic because of Too Tall, the deflected pass.
